Sneak Comments and Feedback
Question from floor: Families are concerned when they donate that money isn’t getting associated with the right students. There is no way for parents to look up kid’s name to see what has been donated under their name.
Answer: We are evaluating other packages for donations with more features. Many vendors charge a fees on top of the standard credit card processing fee. Many vendors also rely on Paypal. The District does not accept Paypal payments. School has been required to use Payforit. Donations are associated with students through a comment field. Question from floor: Interested in sponsorships - are there different levels? Reply: Yes . . 3 different levels. See website (donatetosilvercreek.com) |
PTO Budget Review and Allocations (Jen Hooper)
Actual revenue and expenses were reviewed.
Some of the Sneak proceeds have not been posted yet. Proceeds from Payforit are paid out every 30 days, so some online donations have not yet been received. |
Allocations
$44,980 was allocated to teachers and technology. This represents actual income received to date. $20,000 allocated to Technology. $24,980 was allocated to classrooms according to the breakdown below

There is just under $10K still outstanding from the Sneak. As soon as that money is received, it will be allocated to teachers. Classroom teachers and Specials teachers will each receive $295.51. Learning Specialists & Librarian will each receive $100 or $200, depending on whether they are part-time or full-time.
Comment from floor: Since we raised $12K over budgeted amount more than our goal, can we not ask parents for anything else for the rest of the year. For example, have conference meals catered, coffee cart items purchased. Bus costs/field trip fees increased to $40. Can PTO cover bus fees for all of the families in the school?
Can we get a report at the end of the year of how the money was spent. Is there a way that we can be generous. If we exceed goal by X$ . . can we give the money away to a school in need or to another cause. Answer (Mr. Oliver): No money received from PTO gets spent on food .. all money goes to classrooms and technology. The school tracks all purchases and these line items can be made available. In the future we will be clear about establishing goals and identifying how excess funds will be used. Comment from floor: If we paid for every student’s bus and field trip fees, that would expend The majority of our income. Comment from floor: Many teachers are spend their own money on classroom learning materials. Teachers should not have to spend their own money. A motion was made to accept the budget allocations; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously. |
Silver Creek PARCC/CMAS 2016/2017 (Mr. Oliver)
Mr. Oliver reviewed SCE's school performance framework results and school academic performance results. Silver Creek was at 86% of its school performance framework and was one of three schools in the District that achieved over 80% of plan; meeting or exceeding on almost all criteria. School academic performance results are also very strong across nearly all categories. Girls are outperforming boys in some areas. Assessing the cause of this difference in performance and possible corrective actions will be one area the principals will focus on this year.
District performance is also very strong. The District graduation rate is 81% (up from 61% in 2000) and the dropout rate is 1.9%. This represents substantial improvement over the past ten years.
Both of Mr. Oliver's presentations are below. The presentation on the left is a summary of the school performance framework. The presentation on the right summarizes CMAS and PARCC testing results from the previous school year.

PTO Business
Box Tops - The school collected 7,000 Box Tops during the first contest, which is 50% lower than the amount brought in last year by this date.
Costa Vida Spirit Night - Proceeds from Costa Vida Spirit Night are estimated to be $400, but Costa Vida has not submitted payment to the school
Chick fil A Spirit Night - results not in yet. Two more Chick-fil-A event are scheduled this year. Chick fil a pays a $300 bonus if we are top performing schools
Other Spirit Nights - Will send a survey to parents to see what other types of spirit events families are interested in
School Supplies - Nationwide failure in fulfillment. No communication from Staples. All school supply boxes did come in. Will survey parents to see if they want to do a different program next year. One vendor option would deliver supplies straight to homes rather than delivering to school and also has a longer ordering window
Carnival Coordinator - This position is open and we need a person or a team of people to take it over. There is a complete plan to follow. Planning starts in March.
Yearbook - Parents are invited to submit photos to include in the yearbook. We need pictures of kids at school or doing school activities, preferably with multiple students. Photos can be emailed to: [email protected]
Volunteers - We need volunteers for Picture retakes October 25th, Vision & Hearing November 9th
Trunk or Treat - Candy due Monday October 23rd to receive a wristband. We need volunteers to sort candy. Please sign up here: http://bit.ly/scetrunkortreat
Spirit Wear - flyer coming out soon. This is break-even - we do not make money on items sold.
Sneak Limo Ride & Pizza day November 2nd
Sneak Pig Races & Pie to the Principals November 17th
Sneak Movie Night December 1st
Meeting Adjourned
